Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

What is two-factor authentication and how can I set it up?

Updated over 5 months ago

General information on our two-factor authentication

To protect your account even better, you can enable two-factor authentication (2FA).

When using 2FA you will be asked to enter a code in addition to your password, which you will receive on a separate device. In our webapp you can choose if you want to use this method every time you login or only if you login from an unknown device.

Activate two-factor authentication

Attention: To activate and use the authentication you need an Authenticator Appof your choice (e.g. Google Authenticator)

Open your profile. The field at the bottom right shows you the possibility to activate the two-factor authentication. Click on "Enable Two-Factor Authentication". The following field opens:

Under the first item you will find your backup codes, which you can use to disable 2FA in case you can no longer access your 2FA codes. We recommend that you do not save the codes digitally, but keep a physical copy in a safe place.

Scan the QR code with your Authenticator app, enter the code that appears and confirm. Now you can still choose whether you want to log in via two-factor authentication every time, regardless of the device, or whether you only want the query for new devices.

What do I do if the second device is lost or broken?

If for some reason you no longer have access to the device, you can disable 2FA using the backup codes described above. To do this, click "Have you lost access to your 2FA device?" when prompted for the 2FA code. Then you enter the backup codes. Note that you must enter all the words, not just one of them.
