Right after onboarding the WhatsApp Business API, many customers find an additional phone number in their WhatsApp Manager at Meta with the prefix +1 555... that they did not add themselves. This often causes confusion, but it is harmless.
What is this number?
The +1 555... number is a test sandbox number that Meta automatically provides to every WhatsApp Business Account (WABA). It does not come from seven.io and is not managed by us.
With this number, you can run your first test send right after setup, without having fully verified your own phone number yet.
What can I do with the test number?
- Send test messages to up to 5 registered recipient numbers
- Try out approved templates
- Run a basic functionality check on the connection to seven.io
What are the limitations?
- You can only send messages to explicitly registered recipients, not to arbitrary numbers.
- The test number has a low daily limit and is not suitable for production sending.
- You cannot configure custom display information (branding, profile picture for end users) on this number.
Do I need this number?
No. As soon as your own phone number is successfully verified in the WhatsApp Manager and you are sending in production through seven.io, you can ignore the +1 555 number. It is not billed and can be removed in the WhatsApp Manager if you wish.
